Chocolate , , ,Where is it from?

The treat so loved worldwide has very humble beginnings.  The cacao bean begins life inside a fruit, called a pod, on a tree in the tropics primarily in remote areas of West Africa, Southeast Asia and Central and South America.  These delicate flower-covered trees need much tending and when farmed using sustainable methods grow in harmony in tropical forests beneath other cash crops such as bananas, rubber or hardwood trees.  Grown on small family farms the beans leave cocoa farms by hand, in carts, on donkeys or rugged trucks to be sold to a local buyer and then to processors abroad.  Once in the factory the beans are ground, pressed, heated and stirred to create luxurious, delicious chocolate, like David’s.

The treat that now lies quietly in its wrapper carries a story of exotic places, long journeys and small families that raise delicate tropical fruit trees.  As you peel back the wrapper you are uncovering the cacao tree’s seed and joining people the world over who have turned to this mysterious food for ritual, medicine and sheer pleasure for the past 4,000 years.

How do the beans in chocolate farmers’ hands become decadent sweets in yours?  Let’s explore how chocolate is made . . . . the story of chocolate

The Chocolate Postman

Yes, chocolate is important in life.  Yes, we will continue to write about chocolate.  But the day’s doings are awesome  and will be important in our lives for many years to come.  We elected Barak Obama to his second term as President of our United States.  His greatest accomplishment so far is Obamacare.  Conservatives, ultra conservatives and far right extremists will be filling our ears with barrages of negatives about how Obamacare will not be good for us.

So the Chocolate Postman would like to explain the positives of Obamacare.

No, Obamacare will NOT  cut Medicare drastically and you WILL be able to get quality healthcare.  Obamacare prohibits cuts to guaranteed Medicare benefits.   Obamacare will curb soaring costs of Medicare by reining in unreasonable payments to providers, taxing high-premium plans, cracking down on waste and fraud and encouraging patient-centered, coordinated care.  Obamacare also covers preventive care to avert chronic conditions which currently cost billions of dollars.  Finally, Obamacare closes the infamous Medicare Part D prescription drug “doughnut hole”.  Now enrollees reaching the “doughnut hole” will get large discounts and by 2020 the hole will close.

Medicare beneficiaries will continue to have Medicare and there’s no requirement that they get additional coverage.

Obamacare will NOT eliminate Medicare Advantage plans but aims to bring costs back into line.

And if your currant plan allows you to see any physician in the plan nothing will change.

So really nothing to worry about and everything to look forward to with Obamacare.

So lean back, feet up, take a piece of David’s Delicious Chocolate and look forward to a brave new world in Obamacare.
